NRC IRAP Funding Criteria & Rules
What companies qualify for NRC IRAP funding in Canada?
To qualify, your business must be an incorporated, for-profit Canadian-controlled small or medium enterprise (SME) with 500 or fewer employees, possess internal R&D capability, and be developing a commercially viable, novel technological product or process.
Can we stack NRC IRAP grants with our annual SR&ED tax credits?
Yes. While the portion of salaries funded directly by IRAP grants is excluded from qualifying SR&ED expenditures (to prevent double-dipping), the remaining 20%+ of internal payroll plus overhead remains eligible for full SR&ED tax credit claims.
How long does the NRC IRAP application process take?
Initial ITA engagement and introductory meetings typically take 2 to 4 weeks. Once an ITA invites a formal proposal submission, funding approvals generally occur within 4 to 8 weeks, with monthly reimbursement claims starting immediately upon project launch.
